Core premise

You are in a part of the Affected Region (legally distinct Pechosk Anomaly Zone) that has been altered heavily enough that leaving just isn t an option.

This is the key gameplay differentiator from ITR: no extraction, no going home. You adapt or you don t survive.

Atmosphere target

  • ITR 1.0/2.7 atmosphere, NOT ITR2
  • ITR2 is "so god damn red" — avoid that palette
  • ITR1 ash texture preferred over ITR2 ash (which resembles Meta Horizons sand texture)

Open questions

  • What altered the zone? (lore hook)
  • How does the "can t leave" manifest mechanically? (invisible wall? anomaly storm? psychological?)
  • Day/night cycle? Weather?

The Quiet: boundary design

The edge of the Region isn't a wall. It's a gradient of silence.

Three zones, inside out

  1. Deep Region — normal (for the Region). Radios pick up static, whispers, music. Anomalous sounds. The baseline the player learns.
  2. The Quiet — transition. Sound doesn't cut off, it fades. Footsteps get quieter. Wind dies. Equipment hum drops. Radios pick up less and less until there's only dead air — silence, not static. The absence is the signal.
  3. The Edge — near-total silence. You can see the outside world but hear nothing of it. Radio dead quiet. The most silent place in the game.

A fade, not a cutoff: a hard cutoff reads as "game boundary." A fade reads as phenomenon.

Gameplay

  • Audio as compass. Getting quiet means approaching the edge — useful or ominous depending on the goal.
  • The radio is compromised. The same radio used as a proximity detector is what the Region imitates communication through. The tool and the threat share a channel. The radio may sometimes lie about how close the edge is.
  • You still can't leave. The silence gets so complete it's disorienting — direction is lost, you wander back. Or: the protagonist is a repeater, and the network pulls its node back. The Region doesn't need a wall when it has gravity.

The two silences

At the boundary, the Observers' broadcast dead air (outside) overlaps the Region's generated dead air (inside). Two silences, two sources. Late-game detail: a perceptive player might learn to tell them apart — the Observers' silence is clean, true broadcast nothing. The Region's silence has something underneath. A whisper. Barely there.

Thematic core

The Region imitates communication but produces silence. At the boundary, the imitation overwhelms reality — fake silence is stronger than real sound.
