Status: Waiting on devs (via Darius_ITR, 2026-10-17)

Zach asked what elements/assets would be allowed in a free-to-play ITR fan game with alternative lore additions.

Darius relayed to the team, expecting an answer during the week of 2026-10-19.

Fallback plan: If told no, build a "legally distinct" thing in a similar setup (anomaly zone survival). The core concept (trapped in an altered zone) works without ITR IP.

What was disclosed to Darius

  • 100% free to play
  • Only monetization would be creator-made "mods" outside core gameplay
  • Built-in modding support planned
  • Alternative lore additions on top of existing lore

Here’s the answer from the devs <:Katya_Coffee:1090551912446840874>

  • As long as it is a fan project, meaning a non-commercial non-interactive project (a video, a presentation), it is allowed to reuse assets; it must be attributed which assets have been reused, and this line should be used first thing on any dedicated project page, presentation, video, and in-game:
  • This is a fan project not affiliated with CM IMMERSIVE OÜ. All trademarks belong to their respective owners
  • In case of a mod, even a total conversion mod, there’s no problem as long as it is non-commercial
  • In any other case, like building a standalone game, it is not allowed to reuse assets, as CMI itself can’t allow third-party licensing before its partners, licensees for certain assets
  • Any monetisation of a fan game makes it a commercial product, meaning earning on CMI’s intellectual property. This is not allowed, and would be a copyright infringement. It does not matter if monetisation is done outside of core gameplay or not
  • So either it’s an inspiration, meaning no assets, IP elements (names, enemy designs, plot) reused, with an opening for monetisation, or it’s a fan project, marked properly, completely non-commercial, without an asset reuse if interactive
  • Inspiration: Into The Radius / CONVRGENCE / S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
